About

Flex Air was founded by Charlie Copeland and Paul Wynns on the belief that flight training is more than just how to fly an airplane. It’s about joining a community. Flex Air operates both Part 61 and Part 141 flight schools and has been recognized as an AOPA Distinguished and Military Friendly® Flight School. We have bases in Kansas (Kansas City, and Manhattan, KS) as well as a California flight school in San Diego, CA. We provide career-focused training for flight training for anyone including military transition pilots and service members with no prior flight training. We provide PPL, IFR, CPASEL/AMEL, CFI and ATP training as students work to complete become a commercial airline pilots. We also run GI Bill, VR&E, and SkillBridge programs. We are Veteran and Minority owned and a proud partners with the NGPA.

Yes, Flex Air is approved for both Part 61 and Part 141 training. Part 141 uses a structured, FAA-approved curriculum with stage checks and lowers the minimum hours for a Private Pilot Certificate from 40 to 35. Part 61 is self-paced with no required syllabus. Ask the school which path fits your schedule.

No, Flex Air does not have a Designated Pilot Examiner on staff. When you're ready for your checkride, you'll need to book with an independent DPE. Ask the school if they can point you to one nearby.

Flex Air's training fleet includes the Cessna 172M (Skyhawk), Cessna 172N (Skyhawk), Cessna 172P (Skyhawk), Cessna 172R (Skyhawk), Cessna 172S (Skyhawk), Cessna 172SP (Skyhawk), and Beechcraft 95 (Travel Air).
